NWMGA Competition Rules

Formulated: 2010

General

All the competitions run under the auspices of the North West Manchester Golf Association will comply with the Rules of the Golf as published by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club and handicapping as per the conditions laid down by CONGU.

Measuring Devices

“For each and every Competition run by or for North West Manchester Golf Association and for each days play a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. If, during a stipulated round a player uses a distance measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other Conditions that might affect his play (e.g. gradient, wind speed, temperature etc.) the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the Penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional function is actually used.”

Note: This rule is currently in use by the English Golf Union.

Sides and Partners

Only members of association clubs are permitted to enter association competitions.

For any team competition the sides shall be made up of members from the same association club.

Individual events may have restrictions applied (e.g. the Senior’s Trophy)

Handicaps

Only players who have a current (active) handicap are eligible to enter an association event.

Two’s Competitions

These will be run by the club professionals. The entry fee and number of balls being offered for two’s is totally up to the discretion of the club professional. There is no obligation to enter.

Prize Presentations

It is expected that any winner turns up to the prize presentation in jacket and tie to receive their prize. In the event that the prize winner is unable to attend the prize presentation they must make their apologies in person to either the President or the Secretary and arrange for someone to be present at the prize presentation to receive the prize on their behalf. In the event that the prize winner or their representative is not present then the prize will be presented to the next best score. Prizes will only be presented to scores that are equal to that of the last prize winner.

Reasons to Suspend Play

(i) Temporary downpour which makes putting out impossible on any green.
(ii) Single flash of lightning or thunder but clear blue sky around.
MAXIMUM POSTPONEMENT – 1 Hour

Reasons to Postpone of Cancel

(i) Any green flooded preventing putting out and no prospect of clearing within ONE HOUR
(ii) Repetitive Lightning (within two minutes)
The order of precedence for cancelling the competition is: Secretary; President; Executive member; Club Pro.

What makes a valid competition?

(So that a result is possible and prizes awarded)
(i) 75% of entrants must start
(ii) 75% of those starting returning valid scores (including no returns)
(iii) For Stableford competitions a non-valid score is one where no points have been scored on 6 or more holes.
